N3 closed for hours after two trucks collided

Two trucks carrying dairy products collided on the N3 at 03:00 this morning leaving the highway closed for traffic between the Jacobs Street- and Benoni off ramp.

According to Mr Clement Masinge (Fire Chief) the two trucks drove behind each other when the accident happened. The driver of the second truck, beloning to Honeydew Logistics was taken to Heidelberg Hospital with serious injuries.

Members of Lesedi Fire and Rescue were trying to clear the 33 000 litres of milk that were spilled on the road. Mr Masinge said they hoped to have it all cleared up before 09:00 and that the flow of traffic will be restored before 09:30.

It is not yet clear what the cause of the accident was and the incident will be investigated.
