Crime Report

A fraud case was reported to the police on May 15. According to police spokesperson Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate, hundreds of thousands have reportedly been withdrawn from a business account and fraudulently transferred to different accounts. Bank statements however, revealed information on the suspect and the investigation is ongoing.
Police are investigating a carjacking which occurred on the R23 Heidelberg Road at around 18:15 on May 16. The victim told police he was travelling to Benoni with his Isuzu Bakkie containing a load of pipes, when he was sandwiched between two vehicles and forced to pull over. Two armed suspects approached him and told him to sit in the middle, while they drove off with his bakkie. The victim was allegedly assaulted for a period of time, while his hands and feet were tied. He was later left alongside the road in an open veld and after the suspects took off, he walked to a nearby plot for help. A charge of perjury was however opened against the complainant on May 18, after it became known that he made two conflicting statements regarding the carjacking incident.
A case of attempted motor vehicle theft was opened on May 18 after two suspects tried to steal a bakkie and trailer in Louw Street. The suspects tampered with the ignition and the lock was broken.
A hijacking (of a truck) occurred on the N3 Heidelberg offramp around 19:30 on May 18. According to the truck driver’s statement, he had just pulled over to rest for a minute when four armed men approached him and covered his face. After some time of driving around, they suddenly stopped and left him with the truck, while they made off with the trailer that contained groceries. No arrests have been made.
A carjacking occurred on the R550 Heidelberg offramp on May 18 at around 18:30. The suspect allegedly picked up two hitch hikers on his way from Durban to Johannesburg. The couple asked to be left next to the road at the Heidelberg offramp, but when the driver came to a stop, the female passenger yelled at somebody who was presumably hiding in the bushes. He appeared with a firearm and aimed it at the driver’s head, instructing him to hand over his bank cards and ATM pin numbers. After driving to Dawn Park, the suspects allegedly withdrew over R10 000 from his account. The investigation is ongoing.

 

A house robbery occurred at a house in Shalimar Ridge on May 20. A Laptop, playstation, television set and other household items with a total value of around R59 000 were stolen.
