Forces combine to fight crime

A roadblock search conducted by Capt Dan Silabi from SAPS Nigel outside Alrapark on May 4, revealed that that this Nigerian national does not have a valid South African drivers licence. He was warned to provide the police with the required documentation within a week.

Nigel SAPS, together with members from the Metro Police, Nigel CPF, NCOP and Johmelia Security held a blitz operation in and around the town last week, to show visible policing at crime hot spots.

Before taking to the streets, Captain Dan Silabi briefed the assembly at the police station on the latest crime statistics and which areas needed to be patrolled.

“The police do not always have sufficient manpower or resources to fight crime, but combining forces with the metro police, the CPF, NCOP and security companies make us a force to reckon with,” Capt Silabi said.

The men and women in blue and patrolling officers drove in convoy around town where random stop searches and roadblocks were conducted. The purpose of the operation was to eliminate drug related crimes and to keep the community safe through visible policing.

Several people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and for being in possession of dagga.
